Privacy Policy

Who we are

Our website address is: https://social.jcamherst.org.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection and site security.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a “hash”) may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine whether you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture (if any) may be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images or other media to the website, avoid uploading files that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors and other users may be able to download and extract location data from media that is publicly accessible on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies are for your convenience so you do not have to re-enter your details when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and your screen display preferences. Login cookies typically last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies are removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie may be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (for example, videos, images, or articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you visited the other website directly.

These third-party websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that third-party website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the password reset email as a security measure.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This helps us recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them for moderation.

For users who register on our website, we store the personal information provided in the user profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they may not be able to change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information for administration and support purposes.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you provided to us. You can also request that we erase personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

We review reports and may remove content, restrict features, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these standards.

For child safety questions, CSAM prevention practices, or urgent reports related to CSAE/CSAM:

  • Email: child-safety@jcamherst.org
